milk cows from the pasture each morning and evening with their horse. As a young
girl she had done the same job for her brothers before she was married. Otto and
Bertha worked this farm until Ottos death on April 21, 1955, at the age of 65. Ber-
tha remained on the farm until she moved
into a nursing home in December, 1981.
She was a resident there until she died on
May 19, 1983, at the age of 93.
Henrietta Korte Wilke was first born
to Bertha and Otto Korte. She married Her-
bert and they lived on a farm until 1954,
when they moved to Columbus, where they
still live.
Paul, the second child of Otto and
Bertha, entered the military service Febru-
ary, 1941, because his was among the first
names drawn in the Draft System. He
served in Panama and Europe and was dis-
charged as a sergeant in July, 1945.
Paul was married to a hometown girl
while he was in the service. Paul and his
wife, Adella, began farming after his dis-
charge from the service. They farmed until
his retirement, when they moved to Cres-
ton, Nebraska, where his wife, Adella, still
resides.
