A. Johann and Anna Catherine lived on the property they homesteaded in
1866 until their deaths. The first house was standing until June of 1985 when it was
destroyed by fire. The second frame house built for Anna Catherine was torn down
some years earlier. The Grotelueschen tradition on the homestead place was con-
tinued when Harold (son of Adolph) and Dorothy Grotelueschen built a new brick
home 300 feet east of the first frame house. The brick home and surrounding yards
were sold in 1998, two years after Harolds death, when Dorothy purchased and
moved into a condominium in Columbus. Harold and Dorothys son, Grant, farmed
the same land that was broken with a sod buster in 1867 until his death on Nov. 22,
1996. The farmland is now rented to nearby neighbors. Grants family continues to
live in another farmhouse built on Grotelueschen land by Adolph Grotelueschen, A.
Johanns third child.
